Lotus Tower

Lotus Tower (Sinhala: නෙළුම් කුළුණ; Tamil: தாமரைக் கோபுரம்), also known as Colombo Lotus Tower, is a 351.5 m (1,153 ft) tall tower located in Colombo, Sri Lanka. As of 2019, it is the tallest self-supported structure in South Asia and the 19th tallest tower in the world. Initially proposed for Peliyagoda, the tower’s location was later moved to Colombo’s Beira Lake waterfront.

Construction began on 20 January 2012, during the tenure of President Mahinda Rajapakse. The tower reached 255 m (837 ft) in July 2015.

Design and Function: Inspired by the Lotus flower, a symbol of purity and development in Sri Lankan culture, the tower is 350 m (1,150 ft) tall and covers 30,600 m² (329,000 sq ft) of floor area. It features RGB lighting for color changes and serves as a communication hub, hosting 50 television services, 35 FM radio stations, and 20 telecommunication service providers.

Facilities include a telecommunications museum, restaurants, exhibition halls, conference rooms, a 1000-seat auditorium, luxury hotel rooms, and an observation gallery. The tower’s base features a water park.
